Caterpillar announces open order board for Cat® C32 Tier 4 Final IMO III Marine Propulsion Engine
Caterpillar has announced open order board for the C32 Marine Propulsion engine with ratings ranging from 1000bhp @ 1600-1800 rpm, all the way to 1450bhp @ 2050-2150 rpm, the engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 final and IMO III emission standards. The Cat® C32 features Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) after-treatment technology with closed loop NOx sensing and application optimized performance for minimized owning and operating costs. SCR is the single solution for Tier 4 emissions compliance across the Marine industry for Caterpillar, the company said in its press release.
SCR works by injecting urea into the exhaust stream, a catalyst then converts nitrogen oxide into harmless diatomic nitrogen carbon dioxide and water vapor. The Cat SCR technology is a closed-loop system that determines the engine operating condition and adjusts dosing appropriately to optimize performance.
“Cat SCR technology minimizes total cost of ownership by reducing the diesel and urea expenses to offer the lowest total fluid consumption,” said Michael Easter, application engineer for Caterpillar Marine. “Cat SCR units require minimal routine maintenance and most importantly, we've aligned their service interval to meet or exceed major engine overhaul,” said Easter. The new engine also utilizes an optimized, turbocharged air system to provide increased back pressure capability allowing for a much smaller SCR system.
