Icebreaker Ilya Muromets leaves RF Navy’s Baltic base and heads for Barents Sea
The icebreaker Ilya Muromets left the Baltic naval base and heads for the Barents Sea. The vessel sailed off for interfleet passage covering roughly 2,000 nautical miles to the home stationing, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
The Baltic Fleet warships and aircraft supported state tests of the icebreaker that took place at naval training areas of the Fleet. In course of the tests the seamen checked functioning of the aviation complex: Baltic Fleet helicopters landed on the deck more than 100 times in various weather conditions by day and at night.
The new-generation icebreaker Ilya Muromets was laid down at the Admiralty Shipyard on April 23, 2015, and floated out in June, 2016. The icebreaker will support the Russian Naval grouping in the Arctic.
