Large scale modernization of dry cargo carrier of Project 964 (Project 1565 of Volgo-Don type after shortening), Kalevala, has been performed by Hidrodinamik Shipyard (Tuzla, Turkey), says Marine Engineering Bureau, the conversion designer.
Class notation of the converted ship - КМ L4 R2-RSN by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
The modernization increased the capacity of cargo holds from 3,955 cbm to 4,541 cbm (by 586 cbm, or by 15%). Thus, the cargo stowage factor increased to 1.39 cbm /t (draught - 3.60 m, deadweight - 3,375 t, cargo - 100 t).
Besides, overall strength standard has been improved considerably.
After modernization, the Kalevala is a double-screw cargo ship with two cargo holds, double sides and double bottom, intended for transportation of general cargo, dry bulk cargo, timber and oversized cargo, containers of international standards, hazardous cargo and coal.
Key characteristics: LOA – 105.30 m; molded length – 102.08 m; molded breadth – 16.50 m; depth – 5.50 m; draught at the summer load waterline (sea) – 3.84 m; deadweight at sea – 3,894 t; cargo holds capacity – 4,541 cbm.
With its improved characteristics the Kalevala can be efficiently used for mixed sea and river operation.
