RS class: new multipurpose icebreaking supply vessel named after Yevgeny Primakov

The naming ceremony of "Yevgeny Primakov", a multipurpose icebreaking supply vessel for offshore oil & gas platforms constructed under the survey of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) at Arctech Helsinki Shipyard (a corporate member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) was held on 3 February 2018 in St. Petersburg, RS said Wednesday in a media release.

The official ceremony was attended by Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of RF Government; Victor Olersky, Deputy Minister of Transport – Head of Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport; Ole Myklestad, Production Director of Sakhalin Energy; Alexey Rakhmanov, President of JSC USC; Sergey Frank, President and CEO of PAO Sovcomflot. The Register was represented by Sergey Kulikov, Deputy Director General.

The Yevgeny Primakov is the final newbuild is a 4-ship series built to the RS class under a long-term agreement on collaboration between PAO Sovcomflot and Sakhalin Energy to operate in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The ship's design and equipment enable efficient safe operation for offshore oil-and-gas platforms, including those operating in ice conditions: prevent ice ridges and heavy ice floes, break off the ice generated, etc. The ship is intended to provide the year-round stand-by duty, promptly respond to potential emergencies and, if necessary, perform a range of underwater engineering and repair works. Two Azipod-type azimuth thrusters with aggregate capacity of 15 MW will increase icebreaking capability when operating in the ice up to 1,5 m thick covered with 20 cm of snow. Relatively small "Yevgeny Primakov" can accommodate 70 people (except for crew), and in case of emergency – up to 150 people.

The multipurpose icebreaking supply vessel "Yevgeny Primakov" will be operated under the flag of the Russian Federation, the port of registry being St. Petersburg. Crew – 26 persons.

The ship is named after an outstanding Russian statesman, diplomat and scientist Yevgeny Primakov.
