On 7 May 2018, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia based shipyard Krasnoye Sormovo (part of United Shipbuilding Corp.) delivered the Balt Flot 20 to BF Tanker, says the shipyard. Thus, Krasnoye Sormovo has fulfilled the agreement for construction of five chemical tankers of Project RTS27M signed with State Transport Leasing Company and BF Tanker in December 2016.
The Balt Flot 20 was launched in February 2018. Together with the Balt Flot 19 launched in December 2017 it underwent mooring and sea trials. The ship is the last in a series of five tankers built and delivered to BF Tanker. The vessel delivered as scheduled by the contract is registered at Big Port St. Petersburg.
The RST27M is a modification of Project RST27 with increased capacity by more than 800 tonne. This series tankers equipped with six cargo tanks are able to transport simultaneously three types of products: crude oil, oil products and noxious liquid bulk substances.
The vessels are designed for mixed (river-sea) navigation. Main particulars of Project RST27M: LOA: 140.8 m, breadth: 16.86 m, DWT in fresh water (draft 3.6 m): 5,342 tonnes, DWT in salt water (draft 4.6 m): 7,871 tonnes. The vessel was designed by Marine Engineering Bureau to RS class: КМ Ice1 1 R2 AUT1-ICS OMBO VCS ECO-S Oil tanker/Chemical tanker type 2 (ESP). Detailed design was provided by Nizhny Novgorod based engineering firm Volga-Caspian Design Bureau.
When speaking at the ceremony, Mikhail Pershin, Acting Director General of Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard, said: “Vessels of Project RST27 have been in demand among domestic and foreign customers for many years. This project proved to be a success due to its characteristics and upgrade potential. We improve the vessels almost every year. In the result, today’s chemical tankers of Project RST27М are distinctly different from the first tankers of the initial, primarily in terms of reliability and functionality. And I think this project has not exhausted its reserves. The shipyard will continue improving the tankers if required by the customers”.
