Container shipments on Russian Railways' network increased by 11.9% in 5M’18
In January-May 2018, 1.7 million TEUs of containers were transported on the network owned by Russian Railways on all types of routes, 11.9% more year-on-year.
741,500 TEUs were dispatched on domestic routes during the first 5 months of the year, up 3.4%, while the number of transit containers jumped by 24.7% to 181,000 TEUs. Exported container numbers amounted to 459,700 TEUs, an increase of 17.5%, while the number of imported containers was 271,200 TEUs, up 16.7%.
In January-May, the transportation of loaded containers on all types of routes increased by 13.2% to 1.14 million TEUs which was equivalent to about 16.2 million tons of freight, an increase of 10.9%. The following categories of freight were transported: chemicals and soda – 195,100 TEUs (+7,2%); paper – 128,500 (+7,8%); timber – 141,400 (+31,4%); industrial goods – 95,960 (+9.1%); fabricated metal products – 100,300 (+14,8%); cars – 87,000 (+34.4%); machines, machine tools, engines – 80,700 (+20,2%); non-ferrous metals – 44,000 (-2%); ferrous metals – 48,800 (+18,1%); chemical and mineral fertilisers – 22,400 (-5,1%); construction materials – 35,000 (+1,1%).
In May, 351,800 TEUs of containers were transported on the network owned by Russian Railways on all types of routes, 9% more than in May 2017.
