Port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 4.98 million tonnes of cargo in 8M'18, up 19.3% Y-o-Y
Freight volume handled in the Port of Liepaja, Latvia in January-August 2018 climbed by 19.3%, year-on-year, to 4,976,200 tonnes, the Port Authority says.
In the reporting period, transshipment of grain grew by 42% to 2,066,500 tonnes, construction materials – by 10% to 482,100 tonnes while transshipment of oil products fell by 16.5% to 222,900 tonnes.
Container traffic fell by 20% to 2,222 TEUs, handling of Ro-Ro cargo grew by 13% to 29,226 units.
The number of calls grew by 8% to 1,007, passenger traffic increased by 25% to 34,603 passengers.
Port of Liepaja was founded in the 90s of last century at the former Soviet Union’s naval base. Liepaja ranks third port of Latvia by handled cargo volume. Half of the port’s cargo throughput is fueled by crude oil and bulk cargoes imported from the CIS countries, largely from Belorussia. In 2017, throughput of Liepaja port was 6.59 million tonnes.
