MSCC Bronka to offer bunkering of vessels with LNG

Bunkering of vessels with liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be offered at MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex “Bronka”, Big Port St. Petersburg), says press center of Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel LLC.

The Memorandum on Cooperation was signed on 3 October 2018 at the 8th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF 2018) by Mikhail Likhachev, General Director of Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel, and Nikolai Negodov, General Director of Fenix LLC, Bronka operator.

As part of cooperation the parties are going to look into sale of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as bunker fuel for sea and river ships at Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex “Bronka”.

Under the Memorandum, Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel will explore the possibility of providing natural gas for motor transport operating at MSCC Bronka.

Besides, the parties have agreed on joint implementation of activities aimed to create infrastructure for LNG bunkering of vessels in the territory of MSCC Bronka. The parties also agreed to cooperate in promotion of LNG as vehicle fuel to reduce the negative impact of transport on environment.

The production and sale of natural gas as a motor fuel is one of the priority activities of PJSC Gazprom. For the systematic work on the development of the NGV market, a specialized company was created - Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel LLC.

The activities of Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel LLC are aimed at creating comfortable conditions for converting transport to natural gas by expanding the network of Gazprom CNG filling station. The company consolidates the core assets of the Gazprom Group and provides construction of a new production and distribution infrastructure.

MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka) is a new deepwater terminal at the port of Saint-Petersburg. The project is implemented through private-public partnership. Investments from the federal budget (RUB 17 bln) allowed for building an access canal and water area with a depth of 14.4 m as well as a transport junction with a direct connection of Bronka to the ring road. Construction of coastal infrastructure through project financing with Fenix LLC as a private investor began in 2011. In December 2015 it was completed and the first phase of the project was put into operation.

The capacity of Bronka’s Phase 1 is 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes. In the future the MSCC Bronka expansion will help increase the facility's container throughput to 1.9 million TEUs. Upon completion of the port's construction and dredging MSCC Bronka will be able to accommodate Post-Panamax containerships and the ferries of Finnstar class. The Bronka Complex will comprise three specialized facilities: a container terminal encompassing 107 hectares, the Ro-Ro terminal of 57 ha and a logistics center of 42 ha.  Container terminal will have a 1,220 m-long quay wall (including 5 berths). The length of Ro-Ro terminal's dock line will be 710 meters (3 berths).

Fenix LLC, an owner and operator of Port Bronka, was set up in 2007 for implementation of the project on construction of Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka within a new cargo district of Big Port Saint-Petersburg.

The Second Conference “LNG Fleet and LNG Bunkering in Russia” will be held in Moscow on 24 October 2018.
