Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun is among 36 members of the revised State Commission for Arctic Development Issues. According to the press center of the regional government, the list has been published at the official website of the Russian Federation.
As it was reported earlier, Yury Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, had been appointed the head of the Commission.
The Murmansk Region has a special strategic status for Russia. Geographical location defined the Kola Peninsula as a priority element in ensuring the geopolitical interests of Russia in the north of Europe and the Arctic. Its non-freezing deep-water the Kola Bay became the main base of the Northern Fleet, and Murmansk sea port became the center of industrial fishing in the Barents Sea and the North Atlantic, and the starting point of the Arctic.
Marina Kovtun was born on March 10, 1962 in Murmansk.

1992 head of Division on Taxation of Private and Legal Entities of State Tax Inspection in Kolsky District.
1993 started work in Administration of Murmansk Region, first in Social Security Department, then in Administrative Office.
1994-2005 vice-Chair of Sport and Tourism Committee of Murmansk Region.
2005 deputy head of Department at Federal Tourism Agency
2006-2009 head of Tourism Division at the Department of Economic Development of Murmansk Region.
2009-2011 Aide, then Vice Director General of JSC Kolskaya GMK
Dec. 2011 elected a member of Murmansk Regional Duma (5th Calling)
Apr.4 2012 nominated as Acting Governor of Murmansk Region according to the Decree of the President of Russia
