Port of Arkhangelsk imposes ice class requirements for escorted vessels

The Port of Arkhangelsk Authority says it has imposed ice class restrictions (Ice 2) for vessels to be escorted by icebreaker. The restrictions are effective as of January 15, 2019. The order was signed by Arkhangelsk harbourmaster Denis Sarapunin.

According to the order, the vessels entering / departing the Port of Arkhangelsk in ship convoy escorted by icebreaker are required to have ice class not lower than Ice 2. Merchant ships with hull’s ice class Ice3 and above are allowed to enter / depart unescorted within the Port of Arkhangelsk basin only along the paved ice channel.
