RS publishes the new edition of the Rules for the Classification and Construction of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk Russian Maritime Register of Shipping has published the new edition of the Rules for the Classification and Construction of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (2019) on its official website.
As compared to the edition of 2016, the Rules contain some amendments taking into account the new international requirements, together with feedback from the experience accumulated during technical supervision of design and construction of LNG carriers at the shipyards in the South Korea, and RS cooperation with the leading developers of LNG containment systems. In some sections of the Rules the vague and unclear wordings allowing ambiguous interpretation have been deleted.
Part IV “Cargo Containment” is completely amended in the new edition. For the convenience of users, the part structure is fully consistent with the similar section of the IMO International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code). The requirements for the application of calculation methods have been added while determining the loads on the walls of the membrane cargo tanks during sloshing. The provisions of IACS UIs have been included. Updating of Part IX "Materials and Welding" has been performed, taking into account the advanced requirements for the materials used for the manufacture of gas carrier hull structures and members of LNG containment and processing systems.
RS Rules for gas carriers and tankers take into account the level of state-of-the-art technologies and standards for the environmental pollution prevention, and RS competences enable to support shipbuilding projects of any complexity, including ships for gas carriage in the harsh Arctic climate. RS implements its own program of training and probation for specialists in this area. The specialized branch has been established - Department for LNG Marine Transportation and Storage Technology Department. Currently, every RS Representative Office has surveyors willing to perform a survey of a cutting-edge gas carrier.
