OOIL volume and revenue up in Q3
Orient Overseas International Limited (OOIL) the parent company of Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), says total box volumes in the third quarter of the year ending September 30, increased by 11.8 per cent to slightly more than one million TEU compared to a total of 894,143 TEU in the same quarter last year. Q3 revenue increased by six per cent from US$1.06 billion last year to $1.12 billion this year. Most of the revenue came from its transpacific trade business accounting for $492,591,000, an increase of 2.1 per cent over the same period last year. However, the largest revenue growth came from its transatlantic business amounting to $145,325,000, an increase of 18.7 per cent over last year.
Overall average revenue per TEU decreased by 5.2 per cent compared with the same period last year. The largest throughput growth came from its Asia to Europe trade with a total box lifting of 183,779 TEU, 31.6 per cent more than the total of 139,683 TEU handled in the same quarter last year. OOIL said in its quarterly operational update report that overall load factor was comparable with that recorded last year, with an increase of 12.2 per cent in loadable capacity as scheduled newbuildings were delivered and deployed. For the first nine months of 2006 total volumes increased by 9.0 per cent to 2.86 million TEU compared to 2.62 million TEU in the same period in 2005. Total revenue in the first three quarters amounted to $3.15 billion, a rise of 4.7 per cent year on year.
