Kuehne+Nagel opens new Belgian logistics centre
Kuehne + Nagel’s new €30 million logistics facility in Geel, Belgium – one of the biggest investments in Europe – was officially inaugurated yesterday.Built within a year on a 100,000 m2 plot in Geel Punt Industrial Park, the logistics complex complies with strictest security and environmental requirements.The facility’s 45,000 m2 of warehouse space features high-bay storage systems offering 50,000 pallet positions, and includes 12,000 m2 for the provision of value-added services.A future construction phase would extend the warehouse space to a total of 75,000 m2.For the key customer at the location – Lexmark – the facility serves as a European import, warehousing and distribution centre.The Geel facility has excellent tri-modal access to motorways, railways and waterways, and is close to Brussels airport and the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.The inauguration of the Geel facility coincides with the company’s 50th anniversary of its Belgian organisation, which has expanded from traditional seafreight business at the port of Antwerp to a comprehensive logistics infrastructure that ranks among Belgium’s leading providers in all business fields.
