Karachi Port Trust offers to connect Pakistan Railway to the port

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has unveiled the plans to provide rail connections to the port and major yards to the Pakistan Railway network.
KPT Chairperson Nasreen Haq gave details of the rail connectivity plan to General Manager Railways (Operation) Asad Saeed and his team officers at a meeting held at the KPT Head Office.
She informed the railway’s senior management that the dismantled railway track between TPX and Groyne Yard will be restored.
She said that the railway line will also be extended to the coal stacking area near Groyne Yard for direct loading, ensuring prompt movement of import and export cargo from and to the port, which, currently passes through the heavily congested city traffic, she pointed out.
The railway delegation was informed of the KPT’s future plans and the huge traffic volume that will be handled at the port. She pointed out that the railway, being a bulk carrier and an economical mode of transport, has to gear itself to promptly clear the port and bridge the gap between port and the industry.
