Cargo shipments by KZD up 45.3% to 1.4 million tons in February

Volumes of cargo transported by Kaliningrad Railroad (KZD, Russian Railways branch) in February 2010 increased by 45.3% compared with that of 2009, up to 1 million 415 thousand tons. The volume of cargoes loaded by the Railroad facilities rose by 15% from February 2009, catching up with the volume shown by the company in February 2008, making up 166.000 tons.

"The increase in volumes loaded by our own facilities was partly due to weather factors: during these two winter months there was a redistribution of freight, and some of them were sent to the ice-free Kaliningrad ports. In particular, we’ve had a 51.9 percent increase in imports this February,” the KZD press office said.

Kaliningrad Railroad provides comprehensive services for the loading and temporary storage of goods, works out the scheme for positioning and securing of cargo in wagons and containers, arrange transportation on the special conditions of the shipper, forwarding the goods to the destination station. In 2009, the KZD carried 12.6 million tons of commodities. The Kaliningrad Railroad’s operational length is 963 km.
