Freight traffic through the seaports of Finland in January 2010 increased by 8% compared with the same period of 2009, up to 6.531.76 tons. The country’s ports have seen 3.479.296 tons of imported commodities, 1.8% down from January 2009, and 3.052.464 tons of exports, a 21.7% rise, the Association of Finnish ports statement said.
In January 2010, Port of Sköldvik contributed to overall volumes, transshipping 1.543.624 tons of cargo, up 12.7% from that of 2009.
Cargo turnover at the Port of Kotka this January dropped by 10% from that of 2009, to 640.388 tons, Port of Helsinki reported a 6.2% growth, up to 807.842 tons.
However, the seaports of Finland posted for 2009 a year-over-year 17.9% cutback in cargo volume shipments, at 78.701.163 tons.
