Cargo turnover at Taganrog seaport up 34%, to 224.000 tons, Q1

Freight volumes by Taganrog Commercial Seaport (TCP JSC) in the first quarter of 2010 amounted to 224.000 tons, a 34% rise over Q1, 2009,  the TCP’s press service said.
Recent optimization program run by the Company led to the increase in almost all types of cargo. However, the Port reports a 15% decline  in general cargoes (22.500 tons), making up 10% of the total freight turnover of the company.

The Port’s Q1, 2010 statistics show the most significant growth, 58%, was in bulk cargoes (144.000 tons). Volumes of coal rose by 70%, to 138.000 tons. The oil cargo reached 57.000 tons (+14%). Handling of round timber and pipes made up 7.000 tons and 3.000 tons, a fourfold and twofold rise respectively.

The berth N4 container handling facility launched recently has brought to a 29% gain in containerized cargoes, to 2.500 TEUs.

Taganrog Commercial Sea Port, part of the international transport group Universal Cargo Logistics Holding, is the major stevedoring company operating at the Port of Taganrog. The stevedore maintains and operates at the berths NN1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8. In 2009 the total cargo turnover of the company amounted to 1.3 million tons.
