Effective May 17, the planned increase will be $250 per 20-foot equivalent unit.
MSC India said the GRI will apply to all cargo moving from India to destinations in North Europe, the United Kingdom, East/West Mediterranean and the Black Sea region.
The move comes just as CMA CGM and Zim Integrated Shipping Services announced similar GRIs on the same trade lane, starting in early May.
In related news, Hapag-Lloyd will increase rates on cargo shipped from the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East to Latin America.
Effective June 1, the increases will be $300 per TEU and $600 per FEU for shipments to the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, South America East and West Coasts.
