Tuticorin port handled a record volume of 120,953 tonnes in a single day on June 26, bypassing the previous single day record throughput of 116,955 tonnes on August 22,2008, according to a press release issued by the port. The major items contributing to the record volume included industrial coal, thermal coal for Tuticorin thermal power station and containerised traffic. Mr G.J. Rao, Chairman of Tuticorin Port Trust, congratulated employees of the port, Tuticorin Port Trust Cargo Handling Labour Pool and port users for the achievement, the release added.
