Cargo turnover of the Sea Port of St. P Group in H1, 2010 up 10%, to 5,8m tons

In the first half of 2010 the stevedoring companies of Sea Port of St. Petersburg Group handled more than 5.8 million tons of cargo, a 10-percent gain over the same period in 2009, the SPSP Group press release said.
The Group said the H1 freight volume growth was fueled by 16-percent outbound cargo rise over the same period a year earlier.

Mineral fertilizer surged 62%, to 247,000 tons, exported coal volume rose by 23%, to 1.7 million tons, steel exports increased by 34%, to 1.4 million tons.

The volume of inbound cargo shrank 16%, general cargo, in particular, refrigerated cargo slumped 40%, to 111ths tons, container count dropped 35%, to 30 tons. Volume of handled ore fell 36% to 240,000 tons.
 
First Stevedoring Company transshipped 2.3 million tons of cargo (+16% from H1, 2009). Second Stevedoring Company handled more than 0.9 million tons of cargo, improving last year's figures by 5%.

Third stevedoring company in the first half of 2010 handled more than 4,600 of imported cars at its Ro-ro terminal (there were no offloading operations in 2009).

Fourth Stevedoring Company reported a 21-percent throughput drop, to 1.5 million tons of cargo due to the first-phase container terminal construction.

In six months, the First Stevedoring Company’s Ro-Ro Terminal, launched in Q2, 2009 transshipped 318,000 tons of Ro-Ro cargo.

The Ust-Luga Universal transshipment complex handled about 998,000 tons of cargo, more than a twofold rise (+135%).

The current Sea Port of St. Petersburg development program projected the construction of high-tech terminal for transshipment of containerized cargo, as well as the renovation of launched terminals for handling of automobile and Ro-Ro cargo at the Big Port of St. Petersburg, and Ust-Luga universal transshipment complex.
