Namibia invests $14 million in port expansions

The National Port Authority in Namibia (NamPort) will be investing approximately $14 million for port expansion projects at the Port of Walvis Bay, according to media reports.
The expansion project will enable Walvis Bay Port to host larger container vessels of around 5,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
According to media reports, a dredging contract has been awarded to Boskalis International and Namibia Marine Engineering. The dredging project is estimated to be completed by February 2011.
The port has already begun a terminal optimizsation programme for two of its berths.
