Freight flows via Finland seaports grow 11.8% in Jan-Oct. to 72,7m tons

Ten-month throughput of ports in Finland increased by 11.8% compared with the same period in 2009 to 72 million 706 thousand tons, the Association of Finnish ports statistics said. In the reporting period imports volume totaled 39 million 646.7 thousand tons (up 12.5% from last year’s figure), exports - 33 million metric tons (+ 10.9%).

Port of Sköldvik transshipped in the ten month period 13,283,600 tons of cargo, the largest volume of cargo handling this year, but 7.1% down from Jan-Oct 2009.

Throughput of the port of Kotka, according to the Association, in January-October 2010 rose by 25% to 7.64 million tons, freight turnover at the port of Helsinki grew 12,1% to 9,134,000 tons. Freight flows via the port of Hamina in 10 recent months increased by 29.7% to 3 million tons. Port of Oulu also demonstrated a 10.5-percent growth, to 2,353,500 tons of cargo.

In 2009, the total cargo turnover of the seaports of Finland fell by 17.9% year-over-year to 78,701,163 tons.
