The reform aims at increasing the competitiveness of French ports and boost Tunisian foreign trade.
Mr. Fouad Lakhoua, CTFCI President said in his statement that “Tunisia is currently the 2nd largest trading partner of the port of Marseille-FOS, noting that France remains the biggest investor, the leading provider and the first client of Tunisia”. He added that nearly 1,200 French companies are established in Tunisia and contribute to the creation of nearly 100,000 job positions.
For his part, Mr. Dirk Becquart, head of the port of Marseilles FOS said, that Tunisia is the 2nd international partner of the port in terms of cargo traffic, registering a growth of 16% in the volume of goods transported during the 3rd quarter of 2010.
For roll on-roll off ship traffic, Tunisia was the first partner of the Marseille Port during the 3rd quarter of 2010, up to 18% of the volume of goods. In terms of passenger traffic (excluding cruises), Tunisia is considered as the 2nd partner with nearly 211,000 passengers during the 3rd quarter of 2010, marking an average growth of 3, 3% per year since 2000.
The president of the Marseille Port said “the partnership to the motorway of the “Marseille-Rades” sea, is an important step for the development of trade ties between the two countries”.
The Tunis Merchant Navy and Ports Office and the Marseille port signed in July 2010, a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the competitiveness and the fluidity of the newly established marine highway between the ports of Rades and Marseille.
