Big Port of St. Petersburg imposes ice navigation restrictions in approach channel

The first deputy harbormaster on maritime safety Alexander Glukhov signed on December 1st the order imposing restrictions on ice navigation in the approach fairway to the Big Port of St. Petersburg, the press service of St. Petersburg branch of Rosmorport said.

According to the document the restrictions are effective from 00:00, Dec. 4, for towed barges; from 00:00, Dec. 6 - for the vessels without ice class, and for vessels with capacity of ship power plant below 2,000 hp .

The restrictions are imposed to ensure safety of navigation in ice conditions in the approach fairway to the seaports of the eastern Gulf of Finland on the basis of the current ice conditions and forecast.

Winter navigation in the Russian ports of the eastern Gulf of Finland was launched on December 1, 2010.
