Aktau Port’s Jan-Nov cargo throughput is down 8% to 11,7m tons

Freight traffic passing through the national state-owned enterprise Aktau International Commercial Sea Port (Aktau Port, Kazakhstan) in January-November 2010 amounted to 11,696,000 tons or 8% down from the 11-month period of 2009, the Aktau Port Authority statistics said.

The volume of crude oil and petroleum products shipment in January-November dropped by 15.4% to 8,757,000 tons, while dry cargo rose 23.6% to 2,939,000 tons, including metal – by 13.8% (1,777,000 mt). Handling of grain fell by 25.2% to 377,000 tons.

In Jan-Nov, the port handled 1,891 ships (10% more than a year earlier).

Aktau Port is located on the east coast of the Caspian Sea and is the only seaport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Aktau Port is a gate for international trade flows passing via its terminals handling a broad range of dry cargoes, crude oil and petroleum products. In 2009 the Aktau Port’s cargo throughput rose by 26.7%, to 13,951,000 tons.
