The project completion will allow the Port of Oulu to greatly expand opportunities for exports of lumber. During January-October 2010 port transshipped 70,000 tons of the cargo, a 152-percent surge over the same period of 2009.
Port of Oulu (Oulun Satama) is located on the north-western Finland, near the Gulf of Bothnia of the Baltic Sea. The port’s berths are located in Oritkari, Nuottasaari, Vihreäsaari and Toppila. The Port of Oulu handles more than 3 million tons of cargo annually. The main export cargo is paper as well as timber cargo. Inbound goods handled at the port include mainly crude oil and raw materials for the local timber industry.
