Kotka Port’s cargo handling up 48% in Jan-Nov, to 9,1m tons

The volume of freight shipment through the port of Kotka (Finland) in January-November 2010 surged by 48% compared with the same period last year, to 10,259,700 tons, the Kotka Port Authority statistics said.
 
Container traffic of Kotka port in the reporting period increased by 14.3%, to 360,350 TEUs, while Ro-Ro cargo throughput declined significantly - by 39.1%, to 13,864 units.

Exports handled at the port fueled the 11-month traffic volume - 5,533,420 tons, 46.4% up from 2009’s digits. In particular, Kotka port transshipped 2,120,659 tons of paper (-4.5%). Imports shipment via the port of Kotka in Jan-Nov, 2010 jumped by 2.4 times to 2,312,000 tons.

In November, trade flows via Kotka port reached nearly 1,153,850 tons of cargo.

Port of Kotka is one of the main export ports in Finland, which is part of a logistics hub, providing trade between Finland and Russia. The basis of cargo turnover of the port is timber and goods of a local pulp and paper plant.
