Infrastructure development of north shipping lane may cost about $ 1bn - Vyacheslav Ruksha

Infrastructure development of the Northern Sea Route will require about $ 1 billion, said Vyacheslav Ruksha, CEO of Atomflot of Rosatom Corp. in an interview with journalists, Murmansky Vestnik reports.

"For the development of year-round navigation via the Northern Sea Route main expenses item would be the cost of building of at least three nuclear-powered icebreakers (which could cost about $3bn), nearly $1bn will be needed for NSR’s infrastructure development (navigation, communications, hydrography, salvage operations). This would allow to ship 20-30 million tons of cargo annually through the north shipping lane. And I think, a lot more ", Mr. Ruksha is quoted as saying.
