Ukrainian ports’ 11-month cargo throughput unchanged, at 97,67m tons

The volume of freight flows handled by the ports of Ukraine in January-November 2010 totaled 97,671,000 tons, or the same volume as last year. Transit goods shipment during the reporting period amounted to 29,140,000 tons, the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine said citing Ukrmorrichflot’s provisional data.

"We have not lost from last year’s performance at this difficult time. Cargoes are handled, the ports and budgets of all levels receive the anticipated benefits. I am confident that the outcome of this year-end will be positive," said the country’s Minister of Transport and Communications Constantine Efimenko.

In November, among the leaders by handled freight volume are: Port of Feodosiya with a 31-percent gain compared to November of 2009, Izmail port (+30%), Port of Mariupol (+20%). Among the leaders in transshipment of transit cargo are: Port of Feodosia (+ 40%), Kherson port (+23%), Iliychevsk port (+18%).

The major cargoes handled at Ukrainian ports are ore, grain, metals, coal, crude oil and petroleum products.
