Port of Tallinn posts for Jan-Nov a 16.5% throughput growth to 33,2m tons

Cargo handling at the port of Tallinn (Estonia) in January-November 2010 rose by 16.5% to 33,203,400 tons, the Port Authority statistics said.

Eleven-month container traffic increased by 17% to 139,761 TEUs.

In the reporting period the port handled 23,173,800 tons of liquid bulk cargo, up 11.6% over the same period last year, 5,057,300 tons of bulk cargo (+30.5%), 3,261,000 tons of Ro-Ro cargo (+32.4%).

The number of calls in January-November was up 0.2% from last year’s figure to 6,126 ships.

Port of Tallinn is rated the third largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk, on the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2009, Tallinn port’s throughput totaled 31,597,000 tons.
