South Korean boat sinks in Antarctic sea, at least 5 dead

A fishing boat from South Korea sank in the Antarctic sea Monday and at least 5 people were killed. 20 other sailors survived but another 17 went missing and was also feared to be dead.
According to the rescuers in New Zealand, it would be most likely that anyone who fell into the frigid waters of the sea will be dead inside of 10 minutes. It was yet to be known what caused the sinking of the boat.
There were other boats near the area where the fishing boat sank and was able to provide assistance, said Ross Henderson, a spokesman for the rescuers. Though it is unlikely that the 17 sailors that went missing would still be alive, other fishing boats in the area still continued their search.
Two fishing boats from New Zealand pulled off from the search to find other possible survivors but 3 other Korean boats continued their search.
Family members of the missing sailors gathered at the office of Insung Corporation, the company based in Seoul that owns the sank Korean fishing boat, and waited for news about their relatives.
According to a statement released by the South Korean Foreign Ministry, there was a total of 42 people on board the vessel when it sank. It was composed of 8 South Koreans, 8 Chinese, 11 Indonesians, 11 Vietnamese, 3 Filipinos and 1 Russian.
With the demand for seafood increasing all over the world, more and more fishing vessels are fishing further into remote seas to meet the demand. The South Korean vessel was reportedly fishing Sea Bass to sell to restaurants worldwide.
