According to Marseille Fos, cargo handled at the port reached 78.3 million tonnes (mt) at the end of November, a 3% rise from the same period last year.
Cargo volumes firmed 7% at the end of September before suffering from a slowdown in the world economy and strikes over national port and pension reforms.
Container throughput rose 9% and container tonnage went up 8% to 8.6 mt, while general cargo gained 9% to 14.5 mt. Dry bulk was shown to have surged 42% to 10.6 mt.
The port said traffic increased in all main cargo categories except for the oil sector which fell 4% to 50.2 mt due to a combination of technical shutdowns, reduced demand, and cancelled calls from the autumn strike.
