Marseilles port’s throughput rises 3% in Jan-Nov to 78,32m tons

Freight traffic passing via the port Marseilles (France) in January-November 2010 grew by 3% over the same period last year to 78,32 million tons, the Marseille Fos Port Authority press release said.
In the 11-month period shipments of liquid bulk cargo fell 4% to 53,16 million tons, while container traffic increased by 8%.
 
In November, the port's cargo throughput surged by 40% from a year earlier to 10 million tons.

Port of Marseilles (Marseille) is located in the south of France, on the shore of the Gulf of Lions, in the Mediterranean Sea. There are petrochemical and chemical industries, shipyards and ship repair facilities located in the port industrial area. In 2009 trade flows via the port of Marseilles in 2009 totaled 83 million tons, container throughput reached 882,580 TEUs.
