Port of Yuzhny beats projected volume figures

Sea Trading Port Yuzhny (Odessa region, Ukraine) exceeded the planned for this year cargo throughput. As of December 17, 8:00 am the port has already transshipped 30,600 tons more versus projected figures for the year, the state-owned enterprise press release said

Year-to-date freight volume handled by the company amounted to 17,350,600 tons, up 1.5% over the same period in 2009. During the period, 699 ships were loaded and unloaded at the port’s burths. The number of handled rail cars totaled 138,297 units.

The state-run company expects a significant increase of traffic volume by the year-end over projected digits.

State-run Port of Yuzhny (Yuzhny Merchant Sea Port) founded in 1978 is located on the northwest coast of the Black Sea, in the ice-free Small Adzhalyksk (Grygoryivsky) estuary, 30 km northeast of Odessa. The Port is connected to the sea by a 3km-long 14-m-deep canal so pilotage service is required for inbound and outbound vessels. In 2009, Port of Yuzhny’s cargo throughput shrank by 17.79% (17,838,000 mt) year-on-year.
