Container shipments at FCT regain volume - NCC

Starting from December 13, the volume of container handling at the First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg), have been recovered, the press service of National Container Company (FCT’s managing company) reports. NCC confirms the slowdown in exports from the terminal on December 12 this year.

"The difficulties at the terminal were due to force majeure, namely abnormal heavy snowfall that affected the entire north-western region, complicating the movement of cargo handling equipment at the terminal and, consequently, the containers shipments. We note that snow removal did not stop, we used our own and additional snow removal equipment," the company’s press release said.

The National Container Company said there might be some problems in accessing electronic registration of arrivals due to overbooking.

To date, given the winter conditions, the average daily number of automobiles handled at the terminal is 1,730 units, which is comparable with the volumes of the previous periods. For comparison, on 13 December the terminal handled 1,387 autos.

National Container Company (NCC) is the largest and leading container operator in Russia. The owners of the NCC in equal shares are the First Quantum Group and the FESCO Transport Group. In 2009, container volume passing through NCC’s terminals amounted to some 1.2 million TEUs, contributing 42.1% to total container turnover at Russian ports.

NCC’s portfolio of assets includes First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg), NUTEP Container Terminal (Novorossiysk), UKRTRANSCONTAINER Container Terminal (Ilyichevsk, Odessa region, Ukraine), Ust-Luga Container Terminal (Leningrad region) and Logistics Terminal (Shushary, St. Petersburg).
