Port Vysotsk to handle 45,000DWT vessels

After completion of a dredging project at the port of Vysotsk (Leningrad oblast) carried out during 2008-2010 in line with the federal target program "Modernization of transport system of Russia” the port is ready to handle vessels with a deadweight of 45,000, the Port Vysotsky Ltd. press service said.

The dredging of harbor and approach channel increased depths from 9.3 m to 11.9 m, the quay wall and storage facilities were upgraded.

The port projected for the next year the construction of additional quay of length of 100 m to extend the total length of the waterfront up to 781 meters. This will allow docking and handling three vessels at a time.

Besides, the Port Vysotsk was running a program of modernization of handling equipment. Over the past three years the port has purchased two tugs from Dutch company Danem, two Mantsinen cranes - manipulators, four Volvo truck loaders, two magnetic coal cleaning conveyors. This year the company, beefing up its cranes fleet, has acquired and started operating four Ardelt double jib level luffing cranes, customized for the technical parameters of the new berths of Vysotsky port.

The stevedore company did not halt handling operations despite the dredging and reconstruction works. The port’s export coal throughput in the first 11 months of 2010 totaled 2,129,085.4 tons.

Port Vysotsky Ltd. specializes in shipments of Russian exported coal to Western Europe. In 2009 the company handled 2,9m tons of coal (on a par with 2008’s figures).
