International fuel giant Shell and Tallinn Port Authority are planning a meeting in January 2011 to focus on the Muuga LNG terminal project, the Baltic Course reports citing LETA/Postimees Online.
Port of Tallinn's Board Chairman Ain Kaljurand confirmed the meeting to take place in mid-January next year.
He said that the port operator needs to find a strategic partner for the planned terminal and Shell might be a potential candidate.
However, it is not yet clear where the LNG terminal will be built, since Latvia and Lithuania also want to be its location.
Port of Tallinn (Tallinna Sadam) is rated the third largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk, on the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2009, Tallinn port’s throughput totaled 31,597,000 tons.
