Marine Board offers to establish Russian RCC

Marine Board of the Russian Government proposes to establish a Council for coordination of search and rescue services (Rescue Coordination Center) of different Russian ministries and departments, Adm. Vladimir Vysotsky, the Russian Navy Commander in Chief said today at the Board meeting, the correspondent of PortNews reports.

Sergi Ivanov, Vice-Premier and the head of the Marine Board, has endorsed the initiative, noting that "the condition of the vessels of salvage services of the ministries and departments is nearly critical."

Mr. Ivanov also said that search and salvage operations at sea conducted by different departments remain uncoordinated, leading to duplication of functions and waste of resources. The official has informed that the government will conduct an inspection of the emergency services equipment purchased by various ministries and private companies.

"The state allocates funds for procurement of technical equipment for the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Defense Ministry. And what does the Ministry of Transport buy? We need to see what everyone orders ", Sergei Ivanov was quoted as saying.
