AO BMGS, KPA ink a €6,7m contract for expansion of Klaipeda port

The Klaipeda Port Authority (Lithuania) and AO BMGS have signed a contract to build a pier N143a and coastline increase in the Bay of Malki. According to the Port Authority the project might cost about EUR 6.7 million.

The length of the pier N143a will be 290 m, depths - 10 m. The terminal will be handling increasing container flow in the southern part of the port, and the canal’s strengthened bank will ensure the stability of the coastline of the Smelte peninsula after dredging in the bay of Malki.

State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. Currently, there are 17 stevedores, shipyards, other companies at the port, providing ranged forwarding and logistics services. Trade flows via Klaipeda port in 2009 shrank by 6.3%, to 27,866 million tons.
