Cargo throughput Sea Commercial Port of Ilyichevsk (SCPI, Odessa region, Ukraine) for the first quarter of 2011 decreased in comparison with the previous year by 14.1% to 3,764,000 tons, the company press release reported.
In March, the company handled 1,449,000 tons of cargo, a13.2-percent gain from March last year.
In the reporting period the volume of ferry service cargo surged by 69.2% compared with Q1, 2010. Handling of imported vehicles jumped by 66.7%, shipment of ore soared 161.7%. The volume of meal increased by 53.6%), gas – by 46.7%, vegetable oil – by 35.6%, sulfur (+ 13,3%), pig iron (+6.5%).
SCPI’s container throughput in March amounted to 22,200 TEUs (+5,7%), in Q1, 2011 – 67,600 TEUs (+1,1%).
State-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ilyichevsk) ranks among Ukraine’s top 4 seaports. The Port of Ilyichevsk encompasses 346 ha, 6km of waterfront with 29 berths. Its handling and warehouse facilities enable import/export freight flows of over 30 million tons a year. In 2010, cargo throughput of the port fell by 7.5% year-over-year, to 15,55m tons.
