Hong Kong’s 4 month box volume is up 3.2% to 7, 61m TEUs

Container throughput of the port of Hong Kong (China) in January-April, 2011 increased by 3.2% from the same period of 2010, to 7, 61 million TEUs. Kwai Chung terminal’s throughput rose by 4.5% to 5,57 million TEUs. There was a 0.2-percent decline in the reporting period across other terminals, to 2 million TEUs, the Port Authority said. In April, container traffic rose by 3.6% to 2 million TEUs.

In April container trade of the port increased by 3.6% to 1,48 million TEUs. Kwai Chung’s monthly container volume rose by 6.7% to 1,48m TEUs, while other terminals reported a 3.9 percent drop to 540,000 TEUs.

Port of Hong Kong is one of the largest ports in the world. Port of Hong Kong is able to handle 456,000 ships a year. In 2010, the port’s container trade totaled 23,69m TEUs.
