SIBUR-Trans, Brunswick Rail announce partnership

Brunswick Rail, Russia’s leading freight railcar operating lessor, and SIBUR-Trans, a subsidiary of the SIBUR petrochemicals holding, have signed an agreement whereby Brunswick Rail will lease 550 gas tank cars to SIBUR-Trans for a 7 year period, the Brunswick Rail's press release said.

Brunswick Rail sent the first party of 20 model 15-1780 tank cars designed for the transportation of propane, butane and propane-butane mixes in the end of April.  All 550 of the railcars will be delivered to SIBUR-Trans by 1 October 2011.

Brunswick Rail Deputy CEO and Business Development Director Vladimir Khoroshilov said: “Our priority is to develop partnerships with the largest and most reputable transportation and industrial corporations in Russia.  Long-term cooperation with such clients is a key element of Brunswick Rail’s strong market position.  We are happy to begin cooperation with SIBUR-Trans and hope that the transaction we are announcing today will be the prologue to a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship between our two companies.”

Dmitry Korzh, head of the SIBUR-Trans Commercial Service, said: “We chose Brunswick Rail because it is the leading railcar operating lessor in Russia and one of the top-5 leasing companies in the rail equipment segment.  Cooperation with Brunswick Rail is the optimal solution for us: we have secured long-term access to a highly liquid rail fleet, including tank cars for transportation of liquid petroleum gas from SIBUR’s production units.  We now have a long-term, reliable and attractive agreement in place.”

SIBUR-Trans is a provider of domestic and export transportation services.  In addition to SIBUR and its affiliates, SIBUR-Trans partners and clients include Russian Railways, Freight One, Novaya Perevozochnaya, SG-Trans and Spetstransgarant. The company is a member of the Council of Rail Fleet Market Operators non-commercial partnership, which was founded in order to consolidate private operators and to strengthen the role of these market participants in the market reform process.

Independence, a strong strategic track record and in-depth market knowledge have allowed Brunswick Rail to earn its position as a reliable partner for many of Russia’s blue-chip industrial and transportation companies by helping them in meeting their growing transportation needs. Brunswick Rail’s fleet reflects the structure of demand for freight railroad transportation in Russia.  The majority of cars are gondolas (65%) and mineral hoppers (26%), with box cars, universal platforms and tank cars making up the remainder (9%).
