“In the maritime field, the post as Chairman of the Maritime Safety Committee is one of the highest international honorary posts that a national government official can hold. I also consider the Committee’s election of the Deputy Director-General a recognition of Mr. Breinholt’s and Denmark’s continuous efforts to enhance safety at sea through international regulation”, says Director-General of the Danish Maritime Authority Andreas Nordseth.
The MSC is the oldest committee of the MSC and the supreme technical body. The Committee considers issues in relation to means of navigational safety, ship construction and equipment, safe manning, prevention of piracy and armed robbery against ships, regulations for preventing collisions at sea, the handling of dangerous goods, etc.
The MSC’s handling of current issues such as piracy and navigational requirements in Arctic regions is of great importance to Denmark as a maritime nation and Denmark as a coastal State.
