CNOOC doubles Fujian LNG storage capacity before peak season

China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) has added two liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks at its Fujian LNG receiving terminal, doubling storage capacity at the terminal to 640,000 cubic metres ahead of the peak gas demand season in summer, Reuters reports.CNOOC, China's top liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal developer, started building the Number 3 and 4 tank, each with storage capacity of 160,000 cubic metres, at the end of December in 2008.

Fujian terminal, in southeastern Fujian province, receives 2.6 million tonnes of LNG per year from Indonesia under a long-term supply pact. It also seeks spot cargoes elsewhere when demand rises.

The CNOOC-controlled Putian power plant, which houses four M701F gas-steam combined cycle power generators with capacity of 390 megawatts each near the terminal, can burn nearly a third of the gas imports from Indonesia.

CNOOC Gas and Power Group runs all of CNOOC's LNG and power businesses. CNOOC is also the parent company of CNOOC Ltd , the main offshore oil and gas producer in China.
