Morport St. Pb Group invests in upgrade of handling equipment

Since early this year the Group "Sea Port St. Petersburg" (Morport St. Pb) has invested RUB 152 million in upgrade of handling equipment in line with the Group’s modernization program, the company's press service said.

The Group’s terminals in the Big Port St. Petersburg took delivery in September Kalmar forklifts with capacity from 10 to 33 tons for handling general cargo, a tractor for transporting on roll-trailers heavy-weight cargo up to 32 tons and a 40-foot roll-trailer of capacity of 70 tons.

The Group signed a contract in the first quarter of 2011 for supply of two Liebherr mobile harbor cranes LHM 600, of lifting capacity of up to 144 tons of bulk and heavy lift cargo. The cranes will be delivered in IV quarter of 2011 to the Second Cargo Area of Sea Port St. Petersburg.

Universal Transshipment Terminal at the port of Ust-Luga has taken delivery of two Atlas 350MH loaders, capable of handling suction and grab bulk, 2 Komatsu bucket loaders for handling bulk cargoes weighing up to 6 tons and a Kalmar forklift truck of lifting capacity of 10 tons for handling scrap metal.

The new equipment will help boost cargo handling, the Group says, as well as reduce the costs of maintenance and repair of the equipment.

The upgrade and expansion program of Morport St. Pb includes the construction and development of high-tech specialized terminals in the North-West of Russia, which will increase cargo throughput of the Group’s stevedoring assets up to 20 million tons a year.

The Group of companies Sea Port St. Petersburg is part of Universal Cargo Logistics Holding. The Group comprises JSC Sea Port St. Petersburg, JSC Fourth Stevedoring Company LLC, Universal Handling Terminal in Ust-Luga, and several service companies.
