They will be used on Evergreen Line’s services in various major trade lanes, and the first vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2013.
The 10 new ships will have an overall length of 334.8 metres and a beam of 45.8 metres and a maximum draught of 14.2 metres.
“With fuel-saving features and a highly efficient operation they are designed to provide shippers an upgraded delivery service as well as reducing carbon emissions,” said Evergreen.
The vessels will be able to hook up to AMP shore electric power supplies, which can reduce air pollution caused by emissions from ships in harbour. The capacity of the marine gas oil tank is enlarged to comply with the requirements of the European emission control area.
As part of its shipbuilding programme, the Evergreen group placed orders with Samsung Heavy Industries last July and September for 20 8,000teu L-class vessels, which are due for delivery beginning in 2012.
