PLP starts construction of container storage facility

Petrolesport (PLP JSC, owned by Global Ports) launched the second phase of construction of outdoor warehouse for reefer containers, the company's press service reported.

Currently, PLP has 1,800 sockets for connection and maintenance of refrigerated containers (as of March 31, 2011). Upon completion of P2 construction the facility capacity will be increased by 2,736 TEUs (1,368 sockets). Commissioning of the storage area for 1,728 TEUs (864 skts) is scheduled for July 2011, the second phase - for October 2011

The P1 outdoor warehousing facility for 864 TEUs (432 skts), the zone of customs inspection of containers and the adjacent container yard of a maximum capacity of 870 TEUs were built in 2010.

Since January this year PLP has been constructing the P2 customs inspection zone and a facility for storage up to 1,260 TEUs of dry containers. The facilities are scheduled for completion in autumn 2011.

Petrolesport is implementing its expansion in accordance with the long-term concept, developed by the company jointly with Hamburg Port Consulting. The investment program is aimed at developing of PLP’s infrastructure and improving the competitiveness of the company. The program involves increasing capacity of container terminal up to 2.3 million TEUs (now - 1 million TEUs), Ro-Ro terminal - up to 270,000 vehicles (at present – 210,000 units). Accordingly, Petrolesport set aside $162m for the company’s development in 2011-2012.
