Hapag-Lloyd to apply Bandar Abbas surcharge

Hapag-Lloyd said it will apply a port congestion surcharge on all containerized cargo moving from Asia and Oceania to Bandar Abbas, Iran, Journal of Commerce reports. Effective June 1, the planned surcharge will be $100 per 20-foot equivalent unit.

The German carrier said the operational situation at Bandar Abbas has worsened over recent months and an emergency surcharge is necessary to offset additional costs.

Hapag-Lloyd’s move follows a similar surcharge announcement by Evergreen Line on shipments from the Far East, excluding Japan, to Bandar Abbas and the Persian Gulf.
