Sovcomflot is getting ready for new cooling in Arctic
Sovcomflot keeps watch on scientific discussions concerning possible climatic changes in the Arctic, IAA PortNews journalist cites Igor Pankov, Head of SCF Technical and Engineering Training Centre, as saying at the seminar Cooperation in the Arctic: Cooperation and Industry. According to estimates of the State Research Center "Arctic and Antarctic Reserch Institute", the warming in the Arctic may be followed by a cooling process with ice to reach the level of 1997 by 2030.
However, Pankov thinks, transit traffic at the Northern Sea Route will continue growing. Every year, some 25% of liquefied gas will be transported from port Sabetta eastwards, mainly during summer-autumn period.
Nowadays, peak ice melting in the Arctic falls on September – October.
