Cruise season 2013 was a huge success for Ports of Stockholm, setting a new record for passenger numbers. A total of 278 cruise ships called into Stockholm and Nynäshamn during the season.
The total number of cruise passengers reached a new record of 485 000, said in the press release.
“We set a new passenger record this year and we are incredibly pleased about that,” says City of Stockholm Commissioner of Finance and Municipal Board Chair Sten Nordin (M). “Stockholm is a popular tourist destination and that can be clearly seen from all of the cruise ships that choose to visit us.”
This year between 26 April 2013 and 29 October 2013, 278 cruise ships called at a Ports of Stockholm port.
The passenger total was 485 000, which in comparison to the total of 467 000 the year before means 18 000 more passengers than in 2012.
The last cruise ship of the season in Stockholm was the Adonia, which called at Stadsgården on 7 October 2013. During the 2013 season a total of 47 calls were ‘turnarounds’, meaning that the cruise voyage began or ended in Stockholm.
Stockholm has also been awarded the Cruise International Award 2013 for ‘Best destination in Europe’. This is recognition indeed, as the cruise passengers voted for Stockholm ahead of the Norwegian Fjords, St. Petersburg and Barcelona.
“This year Stockholm has received a prize for being the best cruise destination in Europe. This is rewarding confirmation that the voyagers appreciate Stockholm and all that the city has to offer. We should also mention that the cruise passengers spend a total of SEK 500 thousand million during their visit to the city. This is important revenue for the city's tourist industry, including visits to restaurants, shopping and overnight hotel stays,” says Sten Nordin.
